Hello all!
Welcome back to another season of NBA SuperCoach. Can’t wait to rip in and get the season started.
Earlier this month, I took the time to watch each of the NBA Summer league games to see whether we could find any value in our starting teams.
Below is a bit of a rundown as to how I saw each player perform.
My key takeaways from Summer League:
• In this version of Summer League we had 4 players who could have all gone at number 1 in this draft in Dybantsa, Peterson, Boozer and Wilson. All were as good as advertised. Wilson being the one that caught my eye the most. Boozer not too far behind. Petersen has George to contend with at PG and Dybantsa has Sarr and Davis, along with Young to deal with for touches.
• Darius Acuff seemed a bit off on the defensive end. This isn’t saying he can’t be a reasonable defender one day, but if it stands out at Summer League it’s going to be glaring in the league. He does however, have that star makeup on the offensive end. He will make big shots. He will make tough shots. Either way he will be box office and sell tickets in Sacramento. The buzz is already starting to show. He also has that late game gene which can open up his ceiling in the league as a go-to guy at the end of games. For me this is a nice Bench option for us.
• Cameron Carr looked awesome. But I fear this might be another Dalton Knecht scenario.
• Yaxel Lendeborg will play rotation minutes for the Warriors and could be a nice cash generator.
• Aday Mara is a monster of a man with an outside shot, but is very slow. With a healthy Sorber, I feel his minutes will be restricted.
• Morez Johnson Jr was great, but until one of Gafford or Lively get moved, I feel like he’ll be buried on the bench to start.
• Keaton Wagler is the type of prospect that may get plenty of minutes with the Clippers being stripped of picks for the next 5 years. This is a definite downgrade option once players in the starting lineup get moved throughout the year.
• Outside of Darryn Peterson, Mikel Brown Jr has every chance to be the best guard in this draft. Decision-making, IQ, playmaking, athleticism, clean shooting. He’s shown it all. Bench option in the SG spot for me.
• Kingston Flemings’ rim pressure and overall shooting aren’t there yet. Pass
• Tyler Nickel may be the best pure shooter in the draft. He can flat out shoot the rock. Non factor to start.
• Christian Anderson will struggle to get any game time to start the season.
• Deadly’s man, Nate Ament is an absolute non factor for us and might be the biggest bust of this draft!
• Hannes Steinbach’s calling card to get minutes in the league will be centered around his ability to grab boards and stretch the floor. Watch to see in pre season how the Centre rotation looks for the Hornets.
• I expect Liam McNeeley to be featuring more for the Hornets this upcoming season and could be a nice bench option at bottom dollar for us.
• Cody Williams is almost as bad as Nate Ament. Stay clear.
• Bennett Stirtz will no doubt help the Thunder, but not right now. The thunder has a grabbed a gem here.
• Egor Demin will take a massive leap this year. I still might even start him. He looked very good.
• Hugo Gonzalez is ready for a bigger role with the Celtics with no Brown there now. Bottom dollar. Two game week first week thought so we can afford to wait and see.
• Khaman Maluach is still such a high upside prospect. Has everything you want in an energy defensive big who plays above the rim. If we see him starting or getting heavy bench minutes in the pre season, then this could be our ticket to our Bench C option.
• Noah Penda will have a bigger role in the Magic’s second unit next season but not a SC option.
• Ado Thiero is one of the best young athletes in the league. He might see a few minutes in the Lakers’ rotation to start the year but not relevant to SC
• Ben Saraf has a long way to go, as does Drake Powell. Demin is the clear standout guard for the nets.
• Labaron Philon Jr should never have fallen as far as he did. Crowded roster at Philly probably means he’s more of a watch than a starter.
• Will Riley is someone we need to keep an eye on. Almost 6ft 10 with guard like handles and an outside shot. If he continues to improve, then he’s one that could make us bull coin.
• Sergio De Larrea is a rare pure point guard with genuine floor general skills. I hope he sees minutes in Dallas. Outside of Kyrie, they don’t really have too much in the way of point guards.
Comment below or on discord if there are any further players you’d like to know about.
Catch you all tonight where we kickoff the NBA SC season with Braino and I going through the team Picker and finding some hidden gems for you guys at home.
