I will continue to beat the drum of trying to hold on to your trades this week, unless absolutely (injury) necessary. Next week is the week to boost and chase some low break evens, when we have double the sample size of scores, then what we have after this first week. So with that being said, lets look at trade trends heading into week 2 -
TOP 10 TRADED IN
1. Jalen Coker - The Panthers aren’t going to score 37 points every week, and before his 2 TD game, Coker has 5 TD’s in his first 22 NFL games. He did more with his 9 targets than McMilan did with his 8, but wouldn’t surprise me to see the stat lines reversed this weekend against the hapless Falcons. I still think McMillan is the better long term play.
2. Kenneth Walker 3rd of his name - After 1 game, he has moved to 3rd favourite for rushing yards leader, behind only Gibbs and Henry. Not sure who you are trading him out for, but at his price, he is a bargain for I dont think it is too early to call him, a season long keeper.
3. Isaiah Likely - 13 TD’s in his first 62 games as a Raven. If you own him, well played, if you don’t, watch another week, because if he is Raven Likely this weekend, that monster week 1 score only helps him with one price rise.
4. Christian Watson - 3,8,2,7 - No it’s not the local RSL bingo numbers, but the amount of games Watson has missed each of his first 4 seasons. He’s promised the world before in fantasy world, but has a career high of 620 yards in a season, and a career high of 7 TD’s in a season. Packers run game is ugly, but I don’t think you can expect Jordan Love to throw it 42 times too often. Interesting to see Golden got 12 targets to Watson’s 8. Watson did more with less, but an inflated score courtesy of an 81 yard TD. Buyer beware.
5. Justin Jefferson - I am surprised he wasn’t in more teams to begin with. Can’t go wrong here. If you missed him week 1, week 2 for AJ Brown is the easiest trade you will make all year.
6. Josh Allen - As per JJ above. Admit your mistake and get him in, although not easy to bring in the games most expensive player, without a big change elsewhere. EDITORS NOTE - Don’t make that change trading out Ja’Marr Chase.
7. Caleb Williams - I can see the temptation, but one week is all we have seen, give it another week before we become Caleb bearlievers. See what I did there. Ill see myself out.
8. David Montgomery - I get the appeal here, but who are you trading out? I think he sits just outside of season long keeper status, so does he make you enough money to warrant a trade in and back out down the road? Not convinced.
9. Mike Gesicki - No relation to Mike Wazowski, and his monster (pun intended), round 1 score might be the best he scores all year. If you have your heart set on bringing in a TE (presumably for Loveland), Likely or Sadiq are better options.
10. DJ Moore - 4 x 1100 yard seasons, through 8 seasons, this is the best version of DJ Moore. In a high powered offense, with no defense, he could have a career year. Led the team in targets (8 vs Dalton Kincaid and Khalil Shakir with 6). Brown to Moore makes money, so hard to argue this one.
For what it is worth, I am bringing in the 20th most traded in player, Chris Olave, and saying farewell to AJ Brown. I am sitting on Stribling for another week. More on that later.
TOP 10 TRADED OUT
1. AJ Brown - Somewhere between 4-6 weeks out, you can’t keep 15.5 million on your bench when you need to start the cash generation next week. Easy out, many options on who to bring in.
2. De’Zhaun Stribling - As an owner, I am sitting pat this week on Stribling. 2 reasons - I want another week of SC data, there is no standout at his rookie price after week 1. You need to pay up for more of a guarantee, to someone like Golden, but again, another week of Golden stats will help guide the decision here. Reason 2 - Josh Allen is the easiest VC in history tomorrow. Stribling will be my captain if Allen pops off again like last week.
3. Ja’Marr Chase - Can’t do it. Don’t understand it. Don’t do it. Never trade a keeper blah blah. He scored 7 points in week 1 of SC last year. His week 2 score - 59. Leave him where he belongs.
4. Colston Loveland - In one of the many SC flaws, his score last week (or lack thereof), doesn’t count. Its a DNP, despite very much playing, and playing 87% of the Bears offensive snaps. Laying an egg in a game where his team scored 59 points. I want to give him another look, well technically 2 more looks. He was a pretty consensus top 4 TE in fantasy world, 1 week shouldn’t change that.
5. Brock Bowers - A late week 1 scratching, whilst listed as questionable as a Thursday 4pm (AU time), the talk is he is playing. A week 1 knee problem is concerning, but at least give him another week before you potentially move him on for a likely Likely (see what I did there), cash grab. Easier decision if he is ruled out.
6. Saquon Barkley - 15 carries for 83 yards, plus 1 catch on 2 targets, its not the worst statline, and the TD’s will come. But how patient can you be? He averaged 17.5 carries last year, so not far away from that. If you believed in him through the pre season, you should believe in him one more week. You can bank almost $6 million going Saquon to KW3 though, so if thats the thinking here, can’t disagree.
7. Makai Lemon - The rookie lived up to his surname with a very sour to swallow 3 reception game for, checks notes, minus 5 yards. He was always going to be a slow burn, or never burn at all cheapie option, so again, if you have him, unless you are going up to a Golden, give the man a chance to turn the week 1 lemon into a week 2 lemonade. I’m a dad give my shit jokes a break.
8. Jaylen Waddle - Evan Engram led the Broncos receivers with 4 catches for 43 yards and a TD. Its a week 1 to forget for all of the Broncos, none more so than Bo Nix. 1 reception and 2 yards for Waddle, expect Nix to feed him in a high scoring game against the Jags. Hold.
9. Ram DST - We don’t know yet, but looking likely Aaron Donald returns. What we do know is reigning DPOY Myles Garrett has been placed on IR. What version of Donald returns, and can he plug the holes in what was a very uninspiring week 1 performance. I think you have to hold one more week though. There is no stand out replacement yet. Collect one more week of data, and be prepared to move on if there is no week 2 improvement here. I do stress though, 26 trades for the year, wasting them on DST, is brutal.
10. Omarion Hampton - The ‘Miami’ Mike McDaniels offense promised a lot, and delivered nothing in week 1. Surely it can’t be that bad again in week 2?? As an owner and a Chargers fan, I was very uninspired, but a chance to right the wrongs of week 1 with a tasty week 2 match up against the Raiders. He scored a TD, but only 12 carries for 43 yards. No receiving targets is a tad concerning, but again, one more week of data will decide the fate of Hampton for me.
Keep the trades. You’ll thank me later.
