I scored 545 points this week. Propped up by a Josh Allen VC loop, it doesn’t change the fact
my team has more holes in it than the titanic. Justin Herbert, Ladd McKonkey, Loveland,
Stribling and AJ Brown are all players I am looking to move on. Special mention to Chris Olave’s
hamstring, which had me reverse my AJ Brown to Olave trade at 11pm Sunday night, as it was
still uncertain if he would play. She’s a cruel mistress Supercoach. But that’s enough about me
and my problems.
This is the most important week of trades. You need points, but you need cash generation. Is
there a path to achieving both this week, lets take a look.
TOP SCORES WEEK 2
Josh Allen - 80 points - 46% owned - He has to be owned. I don’t know what else I can say.
Those hoping for a round 4 purchase at a discounted price, will be very disappointed.
JSN - 76 points - 44% owned - No Darnold. No problems.
Davante Adams - 71 points - 2.4% owned - With Puka dealing with hip and groin issues, is
Davante a purchase? Only if Puka is set to miss significant time, there is better options out
there, if Puka is named to play next week. We won’t know much more until Friday I suspect.
CeeDee Lamb - 62 points - 28% owned
St Brown - 61 points - 32% owned - The 3rd WR in the top 5, there will be teams out there that
have all 3.
Dak Prescott - 59 points - 1.8% owned - The 18th most owned QB, priced awkwardly at 24.4
million. Tough weekend for QB’s with Daniels, Williams and now Dart injured.
Jarred Goff - 59 points - 1% owned
Patrick Mahomes - 57 points - 4.4% owned - Has elevated himself back into the conversation as
a QB must own, but is he? I would love to upgrade Herbert to him, but I think I need cash
generation this week, and I also need funds to turn AJ Brown into JSN. More on that later
Matthew Stafford - 56 points - Repaid the faith of his 7% of owners. No Puka no problem, as he
sliced and diced the much improved Giants DST on Monday night football. Identically priced as
Mahomes at 27 million, I don’t think he is a must have, but a lucky to have if you started with
Him.
Brock Purdy - 56 points - 1.8% owned - Lost another receiver this week, but that didn’t stop him.
Might be the most overlooked QB in fantasy sports.
Jonathan Taylor - 54 points - 9.6% owned - First RB to appear in the top scores for the week at
11th.
Panthers DST - 52 points - 0.2% owned - Not a misprint. I am a strong advocate for not using
trades in the DST world, but there are plenty of Texans DST owners (15.2% to be precise,
including myself), that would be feeling nervous about their choices here. Week 5 bye to
consider, which leads me to the next player -
Bryce Young - 47 points - 0.3% owned - Priced at 18.2 million, if not for the week 5 bye, he
would be my pick for a QB downgrade/cash gen, but you cant have a high value QB in your flex
not playing, that early in the season.
Ja’Marr Chase - 46 points - The 4th most traded out player, who was the 1st most traded out
healthy player (AJ Brown, Stribling and Bowers were the top 3 traded out guys), gives NFL
supercoach’s a timely reminder, NEVER TRADE A KEEPER. Upcoming games against
Steelers, Jags and Dolphins before the week 6 bye.
Upcoming bye schedules -
Week 5 - Panthers & Chiefs
Week 6 - Bengals, Lions, Dolphins, Vikings
Supercoach relevant injury report
Caleb Williams - Hamstring - TBD time to be missed - 6th most traded in player for the week
hurts. Based on his theatrics, an IR placement seems inevitable here. If Loveland owners were
on the fence about trading him out, this injury could make that decision a lot easier. Luther
Burden III is the only other Bear with relevant ownership numbers, who, depending on your
roster set up, might be a trade out for another day. If Williams is out for a significant time, is
Tyson Bagent the cheapie QB that could make some money? I suspect that answer is no, but
we might get to see him for another week before we know what this answer to be.
Jayden Daniels - Elbow dislocation - TBD time to be missed - Fun fact, Commanders kicker
Drew Stevens is the most owned SC player on this roster, at 9.3%. The Commanders,
somehow, became even less relevant to SC with this devastating injury.
DJ Moore - AC Joint - 0-2 weeks out - Another one we probably don’t know about until right
before kick off. Owned by 11.6% of coaches, he is probably a hold, even if he misses week 3.
Jonathon Brooks - Groin - 4-5 weeks out - Tricky one for the 17.9% of owners. He could be
back after the week 5 bye. I would be tempted to hold, at least through week 3, and hopefully
get some more information on a return schedule.
Puka and Brock Bowers - Owned by 36.5% and 30.3% respectively, thats a lot of frustrated
owners right now. Its such a brutal sport, coming into seasons with injury concerns, it doesn’t
normally go away. I’d be moving off both of these guys, but it might not be a priority this week,
with no price changes for either player.
Mike Evans - Hip pointer - tipped to play week 3 - Through 2 games, 49ers have had injuries to
Evans, Stribling and now Mike Evans. Its the NFL’s version of Survivor, and somehow George
Kittle is the healthiest member of the receiving core here. Is it Deebo time?? It’s definitely CMC
time, but not sure how Supercoach’s can find the $27.5 million dollars needed for him.
How are we going to make money this season?
What do Jeremiah Love, Trey Smack, Carnell Tate and Jadarian Price have in common? They
are all less than $5 million and in the top 10 most owned players.
You can throw in the 5.6 million Isiah Likely, 4.3 million Dallas DST and 5 million Mendoza, also
all in the top 10 of ownership, and out of these 7 players, hard to say any of them are a home
run for cash cow status.
Makai Lemon, sits at 16th most owned, and has 4 points through 2 games.
KC Concepcion, 21st most owned, sitting at a 10.5 average.
It all adds up to a pretty uninspiring crop of rookies/cheapies. I think you need to be hunting in
different areas for quick cash. A couple of thoughts -
Quarterback
Bryce Young - minus 26 BE - Forecast to make 5.6 million over the next 2 weeks, but you would
likely need to trade him out for his week 5 bye. Currently the 3rd highest scoring player, behind
only Allen and JSN. Games against Browns and Lions, both juicy on paper, but we are still
talking about the Panthers. I can’t do it
Josh Allen - minus 10 BE - Priced at 30 million, the time is now or never to bring him in.
Deshaun Watson - minus 28 BE - I think if you own him great, but bringing him, can only say
this is a good idea if he is your non playing QB.
Lamar Jackson - 23 BE - Cowboys, Titans and Falcons for the next 3 games. Health will always
be a worry, but given his discounted starting price of 21.8 million, is he the downgrade you need
from one of the underperforming 20 million plus guys (Maye, Herbert to name 2)
Wide Receiver
Denzel Boston - minus 40 BE - At 5% ownership, is it too early to say we rostered the wrong
rookie Browns WR? Watson under centre still worries me, but forecast to make $5 million over
the next 2 weeks.
Jalen Coker - minus 36 BE - Coach’s that moved early last week on Coker will be happy. If you
didn’t do you do it now? $4 million forecast profit over the next fortnight, and lots of WR issues
for people. There is worse options.
JSN/St Brown - Lumping these two together, with a minus 14 and minus 8 BE, this might be the
cheapest they are all season based on early season returns. JSN is coming in to my team, just
gotta figure how that works.
Running Back
Kenneth Walker III - Mahomes has a running game. Walker has reaped the benefits of
Mahomes stunning ACL recovery. Minus 44 BE, and forecast to make $4.2 million dollars in one
week. He might not even be a cash cow, he has season keeper written all over him.
Chuba Hubbard - minus 27 BE - The injury to Brooks sures up Chuba’s usage rate, but again,
we are talking about the Panthers again, how many Panthers can you have in your team??
Bhayshul Tutten - minus 13 BE - Nice price at $6.9 million. A Barkley to Tutten trade will make
you short term money for a major upgrade elsewhere (Allen or JSN as example), and make you
some cash in price rises, with Tutten scheduled to make $2.9 million over the next 2 weeks.
Tight End
Isiah Likely - minus 36 BE - A 47 piece in week 1 was followed up by an 11 in week 2. Losing
his QB didnt help, but if Winston has to fill in for Dart, this could be a good result for Likely. That
47 only hangs around for 1 price rise though. Need to decide if you think the 47 or the 11 is the
outlier. I would suspect the 47 doesn’t get repeated.
Colton Loveland - 35 BE - No price rise/fall this week, due to his week 1 donut. Another TE who
has lost his QB, for a still TBD amount of time.
Travis Kelce - minus 4 BE - Mr Swift is still balling. 3rd highest TE scorer behind Kincaid and
Trey McBride, but is $8 million cheaper than McBride. Same price as Loveland. Old man injury
risk though.
Not much else to like in this position right now.
DST
I will preface this by saying I dont see the value in wasting trades on your DST. But as a
Houston Texans DST owner, I am wondering if I need to reevaluate this stance. The Texans
have a 49 BE, and forecast to drop $2.2 million next week. They have played Bengals and Bills
to begin the season, so if you thought they were your DST even with that schedule to begin
(guilty), do you hold the (defensive) line on your choice? I am. Wouldn’t judge any one that
bailed on them though. Who are the options though? Do you really want to be starting a
Raiders, Panthers, Bengals or Jets offense? These are the 4 DST’s forecast to make the most
money in the next fortnight.
If you are going to pivot, 49ers feel the best option, who sit with a minus 6 BE, and priced at
$5.7 million.
Dallas DST stinks, but again, no need to burn a trade here.
Kicker
Again another position I wouldn’t be using trades on, at least not at this point of the season.
Smack, Stevens and Zvada are all scheduled to make decent money over the next couple of
weeks, so if you have one of these guys, or two, you are set.
Chargers K Cameron Dicker, has a 57 BE, and for the 8% of owners, thats a tough spot, which I
dont envy.
Brandon Aubrey is the second most owned K, but the Cowboys are going up by 7’s not 3’s at
the moment. That tide will turn.
Initial trade thoughts for the 4th and 4 inches team are as follows -
● I was $300K short of going Herbert and AJ Brown to Lamar and JSN. I need JSN, and I
want Herbert gone. Back to the trade drawing board.
● Bryce Young is staring at me right now with “pick me, pick me” eyes. Damn you week 5
bye.
● Do you absolutely need a QB in your flex?? Looking at the top 20 scorers through 2
weeks - 9 of them are QB’s - Allen, Young, Mahomes, Purdy, Shough, Williams, Goff,
Prescott, Hurts, 6 are WR’s and 5 are RB’s. Drilling down to the top 10 - 4 x QB’s, 4 x
RB and 2 x WR. Am I crazy for thinking Herbert for JSN is a bad idea?? JSN is the
second highest scoring player through 2 weeks, and is cheaper than all QB’s in the top
20 not named Bryce Young. I think I have just talked myself in to it.
